About
At NSS, our mission is to provide a safe environment that empowers cooperative, responsible, and enthusiastic horse lovers who want to learn and have FUN!
Nestled in the heart of Driftwood (rural Smithers, BC), Northern Sky Stables offers a comprehensive range of facilities designed to support riders and horses year-round. Our amenities include an indoor riding arena—ideal for the snowy northern winters—a well-maintained dressage ring, a jumper ring, a training cross-country field, and comfortable stables.
Unlike traditional stable setups, our cooperative approach fosters a sense of shared responsibility and collaboration among our members. Together, we maintain a supportive environment where horses and horse enthusiasts can connect, grow, learn, and become part of a team.
Whether you’re an experienced competitor or a dedicated learner, Northern Sky Stables is a place for riders who are passionate about horsemanship and committed to unlocking their equine partner’s full potential. Here, it’s not just about riding—it’s about being part of a community that shares your passion.

She launched a Pony Program to inspire young riders and offers lessons on her retired Grand Prix schoolmasters, providing invaluable opportunities for students of all levels. Additionally, Jane is actively schooling and competing the talented Leander at the FEI Small Tour level, while also nurturing her promising homebred, Rupert, who shows great potential.
MARK PERRY | INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT
When Mark Perry isn’t writing songs or performing, he’s hard at work behind the scenes at Northern Sky Stables. As the infrastructure manager, Mark takes care of everything from building projects and fence repairs to hay management, ensuring the stables run smoothly year-round.
Though he doesn’t ride often, Mark enjoys supporting the NSS community, finding inspiration in the dedication and enthusiasm of both riders and horses.
