Training Opportunities at Northern Sky Stables
While Northern Sky Stables welcomes horse owners looking to advance their skills, we also provide access to highly trained, school horses for riders who may not be in a position to own. This allows riders to engage in meaningful and immersive training programs, building a deep connection with a horse while progressing in their riding journey.
Our programs are designed for riders of all levels, with a focus on safety, confidence, and personal growth. Whether you’re starting out, advancing your skills, or exploring higher-level techniques, Northern Sky Stables provides the opportunity to achieve your goals in a supportive and professional environment.
Note: Participants in the Pony Program are encouraged to join the local Pony Club chapter to expand their learning experience. Similarly, riders and horse owners in training programs are invited to join the Northern Saddle Club to connect with the local equestrian community.
Schoolmasters
Our Grand-Prix level Schoolmasters provide riders with the unique opportunity to learn advanced movements, including flying changes, half-pass, pirouettes, tempi changes, piaffe, and passage. These well-trained horses allow riders to experience lightness, connection, and higher-level techniques.
Schoolmasters are available for individual lessons or leases with opportunities to compete.
Pony Program
The Pony Program is designed for riders aged 8 and up, offering foundational learning and development opportunities tailored to different goals and skill levels.
- Beginner on the Lunge: This program introduces new riders to the fundamentals of horsemanship, including safely catching, leading, and tacking up a pony. Lessons focus on confidence and control with 30-minute lunge sessions to build balance and understanding.
- Partnership in Practice: Focused on recreational riding and personal development, this program is ideal for riders who want a non-competitive, meaningful relationship with a pony. Participants ride independently during coached lessons and enjoy supervised trail rides.
- Competitive Program: For riders aiming to participate in shows, this program includes leasing a pony and riding three times a week. Two of these rides are private or group lessons, and the lease ensures the pony is secured for the season, allowing riders to enter local and regional competitions.
Training for Horse Owners
Horse owners can join a focused training program to develop their horse’s skills or address specific training challenges. This program supports riders and their horses in dressage or hunter-jumper disciplines, whether the goal is recreational riding or competition preparation.
- Individual Lessons: One-on-one coaching helps riders refine their skills and develop a stronger partnership with their horse.
- Training Rides: Jane will ride and train horses as needed, focusing on building foundational elements such as rhythm, suppleness, contact, and connection. This approach ensures the horse develops properly through each phase of training.
